About "I Don't Need You feat. The Cold Press:"
NYC based rapper, Deascent paired up with guitarist and rapper Brent Butler and their band, The Cold Press (named after their co-written EP released in 2015), to construct their feverish anthem of independence, "I Don't Need You." Deeply stewed in allusions to addiction and toxic relationships, the song has been a mainstay and crowd-favorite of the group's live show for years. Now they are debuting the official studio rendition of the record, releasing it everywhere music is sold on Nov 24, aka Black Friday. "This song is for everyone out there with an ex, a boss, or anything else you just don't need in your life," Deascent has declared to crowds, as the band sounds off the opening riff. "This is the single that celebrates being single," according to Brent Butler. Ultimately the song is a truly multifaceted mini-opera, with plenty ingredients to justify the band's name. It lures you in with latin licks and dance grooves before delivering a palate-full of revelatory rap and an unexpected rush of punk. On the finish, "I Don't Need You" breaks down into a dark and indulgent shred-fest, complete with a psychedelic rock-reverent, screaming guitars (Brent Butler and Zee Stanley), haunting and harrowing howls (courtesy of transcendent vocalist, Lauren Renahan), and a thunderous, gut-punching rhythm section (Stevie Kings on drums and Dan Victor on bass).
